Shohin in blossoms.

The potted life of this tree has started at the time I have realised there is reasonable thick trunk/root? under the soil level.  An air layer has helped me to remove the long uninteresting part and here we go...

Flowering quince. Again...

It might be a bit boring to share all the time the same tree...  If you think that it's a nuisance then skip the next post as there is another one just getting ready for the show...

Buxus

B. sempervirens_boxwood_box_kruÅ¡pánek_zimostráz_??? Whatever name you like,  it is all about the same hardy plant. Hardy?  For sure the bush is quite resistant to the attacks of many pests but as we know a keen non well seasoned greenfinger or a delicate moth could do a lot of damage to it. Just have a look how this tree has looked like in spring 2018:  And now in winter  ( 30.12.2019 ) It looks a bit less regimented perhaps.  But if you look closer you will see a lot of dead branchlets all around the crown. See the pic below... At the first thought about the reason I was quick to blame the vigorous blossoming in the previous year.  And based on that I have tried to strip as many new buds as possible.   Quite a job.  You need a good amount of time to deal with that.  The good point of it - it gave me a lot of time to think. And maybe having a bit deeper and more honest look on the possible root causes.  In spring 2019 I have set a target to make 3,

The last week before the Xmas eve has a very special atmosphere.  You can feel it everywhere.  Even the anonymous crowd that is  moving along the streets vibrates with it.  Someone is  full of despair  trying to grab what has left on the desks but some other people look  quite different.  And if you look at them a bit closer you can spot a strange glare in their eyes.  Especially in those of small kids.   Is it EXPECTATIONS perhaps?  Anyway.  It is early morning of the18th of December and despite the cold outside  somewhere there is singing a blackbird.   It is a treat...  As much as the fact that my small flowering quince has developed a blossom... Height: 14 cm Width:  20 cm Pot: China December Strange, in the spring the same plant has reddisch blossoms And the bigger sister...

Potentilla fruticosa_Shohin

What is all this fuss about ?   An autumn?   Gosh. I do not care - I do love spring and my blossoms... This little tree was bought a long time ago as a stick in the garden center with the idea to have a bonsai from it. One day.   After two or three years I have ground it and left it unnoticed for another good number of years.  Last year I have given it another closer look and decided that there is some potential for further development... Crassula ovata_just a few flowers this year

Image
Few years ago I confiscated this Crassula ovata cultivar Monstruosa from my wife.   Despite the obvious age - the diameter at the soil lever is about 12 cm - it has never produced a single flower. Well, I should say until this  winter.   Only few of them and not very showy but happy to have them.   2017 2018 This is a blossom of the common Crassula ovata.  Again just a few ones on each of the plant.  Is it because the autumn was a bit warmer then the plant needs for nice flowering.  Maybe too much water?   Any idea what should be done to get it flower more?

Prunus spinosa_The Midway. Spring. Spring. Spring. Well, at least looking at the calendar...

We need more chocolate, courage and ramification.  The ranking of the first two items is not that much important. A good chocolate is always good.  It helps to be patient. Courage is a must at the time of important decisions: Cut or leave? Ramification is the result of your courage and patience. Obviously, it will take a lot of chocolate to get there with this blackthorn.   As you may see the thread grafted branch is still fully connected to the feeder.   I believe the connection is ready for the separation nevertheless there is no hurry to do it.  Maybe later this  summer or maybe next spring... See below.   Branch dressed up with blossoms. The colour of freshly developed blossoms is brilliant white.  As the time goes, it will get a yellowish tint

Prunus mahaleb_ The Dancing Snake. Deadwood all-over...

Image
How much dead wood is too much???   Well,  if I look on some specimen of Prunus mume I know there are no limits for that.   So lets go and see what the tree will look like in another 5 years from now.  I certainly hope for more visible progress... 😎 2017 Finally,  I have separated the stronger of the two threadgrafts.  The other one doesn't look like it is ready to go without the feeder.  Let see how it goes next season...
