A few shohin tables made this year...

all but one are copies of tables designed by guys that are  on another level.    Long way to go but fun. Copying someone else is not a big fun in a long term rather  a way to hell but helps me to understand the production steps.

Too many plants fighting for the space....

Every single year I would stay in front of the benches with a tree in my hands thinking: where I can place this one.  And for sure, this is not about thinking which place will suit this specific tree the best.  It is realy just about squeezing it somewhere.   And with new growth this space problem    is just mounting up.   " I need to cut the number down" - a thought  that has never came materialised  - well, with just a few exceptions.   What about this year? All that means  that every single year I am there thinking how to inflate the available space... A project for this spring:  Miniature bonsai stand Just to get some feeling about dimension: top deck 20 x 20 cm, total height 40 cm approx.  If you wonder what is at the bottom - a vice that keep the stand in position.  Thanks to that - I can move the stand  to another location ( within this long bench at least ). This stand was just a test to tune  the production process and to check the suitability for the purpo

Sandstone from old quarry,  foxtail saw with HM plates,  wood from larch, stainless woodscrews & a guy with two hands - both left. And strong minded character ( it is fair to say - the character of my spouse ).     A feature of interest: the light coloured object on the pole?   A fossil found while cutting the slabs  Now, where to get a nice bonsai to put on there?

Slats  ( Larch ) 35 x 25 x 400 Why to go for slats perpendicular to the axes of the rail board if they take much more time to process? I believe it allows better circulation of air.  So it should be better for the trees.   And if this  " better circulation " is true, then my humidity trays should provide even better environment for my trees ( I will cover this a bit later ). Rails  ( Spruce ) I have opted for a 140 x 25 mm profile.  Solid and good bending resistance.  A torsion could be a problem with such thin elements,  but I am not too much concerned about that as the distance between the poles is just 2000 mm. Wood protection Osmo stain.  Please note the additional protection of the face of the poles.  A piece of a rubber foil. Joints Simple butt joints have been used.  Stainless screws 4,5 x 60 mm Additional reinforcement  on the poles  to support the wooden rails Nearly finished.  Still need to make c. 20 additio
