New project_Prunus mahaleb_Shohin_Semi/full cascade
In the last two - three years I have started a good number of new projects with some plants I have never dreamed having them in my collection. Frankly, I am quite sure that a good number of them will turn into something that could be described in Czech language like a osina v prdeli. The English equivalent " pain in the ass" seems to be quite close to the Czech expression but it is much less colourful. The translation of OSINA = AWN. An awn in the ass???
Anyway. Just check with me some of the projects:
Prunus mume grafted on a Prunus cerasifera understock. Well, if you are the real bonsai aficionados YOU simply MUST have this plant. Really? One month of eager expectations watching every single morning the development of flower buds, 2-3 weeks of ACHHH to admire the beauty of blossoms and... THAT is for the rest of the year - apart from the quite tricky horticulture and desired expectation of next blossoming period. Not to mention the frost prevention excercices...
Pseudocydonia sinensis - another stick in the field waiting to get some girth. First blossoms not in the sight. And the same for the special bark...
Chinese wolfberry - one more stick. Luckily, this plant produces the generative organ quite early so I can enjoy the blossoms and first berries this year - I hope.
Beautyberry - another stick - but again here the long period of waiting to get some reasonable looking base ( even for shohin ) is sweatened a bit by the colorful berries that develop on quite young plants
No surprise that having started these projects I have needed something more rational=yes if you guess Prunus mahaleb then you are spot on.
Collected in spring 2019
I do like to keep some options - semi or full cascade? We will see. It will slow down the project but I like it that way...
Nice movement of the trunk and good looking base as a starting point.
Both options would benefit from strong anchoring roots. This is the right time to start with them.
Just taking some measures to see how this look in two three years...
Biogold and a good layer of sphagnum moss protected by the plastic net - a simple hatchery for new roots
I will check the progress just before the first frosts. Otherwise, I will keep my curious fingers out of a job as the new roost ( if there will be any ) are extremely fragile. I will only use some dissolved biogold to keep them happy. I hope they will make ME happy in return...
Dobra prace Vlado. Radost pozerat. Drzim palce. Inam moj hruska air layer pustil korene po rokoch, pomohol geloevy stimulator asi. Dumam kedy oddeleit.
ReplyDeleteDíky, Maroš. Mám radost z Tvé hrušky. Klidně to můžeš nechat zabalené do konce září. Není kam spěchat. Když si nejsem jistý, nechám to i přes zimu při nezámrzné teplotě. Ale myslím si, že by to nové kořeny přežily i venku na mrazu pod vrstvou mulče. Hrušky jsou super. Podzimní vybarvení je asi jedno z nejlepších ( v rámci lokálních druhů )
